WORK TITLED; 14

We arrive in this world with factors of genetic influence from our predecessors and their predecessors. Influence from their environment, behavior, and belief systems under which we grow, and in turn, our offspring are born into.

My field of inquiry has teetered into genetics, epigeneology (epigenetics). Consequently, I am questioning the cycle of life itself. Neuroscience led me to trans-generational genetics and life as a cycle of generations. Particularly interesting are the research findings by The European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO) that genomes (ringworms) become luminous when exposed to temperatures 5 degrees Celsius above their normal temperature. Research has proven that the environment changed their DNA, and their offspring contain the same luminous gene, for 14 generations regardless of their environment.

Peter Gronquist's infinity mirror work and research findings explain that infinity is not really infinite at all. He observed that each mirror reflection loses 7% of its strength due to the impurities of the glass. That means that there are 14 reflections visible.

I became fixated on the number 14.

There seems to be a connection between the number 14 and the passing of time in life.

The practical and intellectual methods used in my work titled ‘14’ are focused on the repeated findings of the number 14 during my research. The geometry of the piece is created around divisions and multiplications of 14.

The stand measures (8 x 14)  112cm x 14cm.

The mirror box measures (5 x 14 ) 70 x 70cm.

The centerpiece is 14cm x 14cm.

The center section suspended invisibly from the ceiling is covered with carbon shards, a substance that exists in all living life forms on the planet, in the sun, and in the stars. It is number 14 on chemistry's periodic table.

Mathematical equations, sacred infinite geometry, and Sufism became of interest. For example, the endlessly shifting perspectives in 'Pentagon' by Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian demonstrate symmetry, repetition, and principles of mystical geometry.
